Algorithms, decisions and debugging: think like a programmer, then think smarter
Computer science · ages 8–12 · 11 hours over 3 weeks · 3 classes a week, 1½ hours each · GH₵300.00
Young coders who already know sequences and loops go further. Over three weeks — 3 live classes a week, 1½ hours each, one class per module, each followed by practice, a quiz and an assignment — they write exact algorithms, draw flowcharts and decision trees, use AND, OR and NOT to make decisions, build loops inside loops, and learn to debug on purpose — run it, find the first wrong step, change one thing, test again. They compare two working solutions and learn why the shorter one is often better. It ends with the Smart Maze Challenge: levels with keys, gates, water and stars, and a maze of their own design with two routes to compare.
What you will learn
- Write a clear algorithm and trace it step by step
- Draw a flowchart or decision tree with yes/no questions
- Use if/else, AND, OR and NOT to make a decision
- Use loops, and loops inside loops, for repeating patterns
- Choose test cases, including tricky edge cases, to catch a bug
- Debug in a system: reproduce, find the first wrong step, fix one thing, test again
- Compare two working solutions and explain which is more efficient
