Data Detectives
Patterns, data and an honest introduction to AI
Data & AI · ages 11–16 · 14 hours over 3 weeks · 3 classes a week, 2 hours each · GH₵450.00
Learners become data detectives: they collect safe sample data, organise it into tables and categories, read and draw charts, spot patterns and make simple predictions. Then they find out how machine learning really works — learning from labelled examples — and build a small classifier of their own in Python. Most importantly, they test it: where is it wrong, why, and whose examples were left out? Over three weeks — 3 live classes a week, 2 hours each, one class per module, each followed by practice, a quiz and an assignment — it ends with a classification or prediction demo on a curated dataset of fruit or Accra weather, with an honest explanation of its limits. No Python needed to start.
What you will learn
- Collect a small sample of safe, non-personal data and record it in a table
- Tell numbers from categories, and organise data by category
- Choose the right chart for a question, and read a chart accurately
- Spot a trend in data and use it to make a simple prediction
- Describe how machine learning learns from labelled examples: collect, label, train, test, improve
- Write a simple rule-based classifier in Python and measure how often it is right
- Explain why an AI prediction can be wrong, and how biased data leads to unfair results
